Decommissioning and Remediation: Vonde’s Intervention for Eurofibre

Date: 19 March 2025

Sooner or later it had to happen: to put ourselves at the service of an industry that, due to factors external to its ability to do industry, is forced to close, decommission machinery and equipment and that, prior to this decommissioning activity, requires a general remediation service that starts from the project and ends with the execution.

After more than thirty years of activity, Eurofibre Srl, a Venetian excellence in the field of the production of glass wool thermo-acoustic insulation, closes due to the cost of the energy needed for production, an expense that would not allow it to continue to withstand the competition of the main competitor that is fortunate to have a production site in Slovenia, where the energy produced by the Krsko nuclear power plant costs almost half.

By carrying out the accurate inspection with the DG Eng. Martina Ricetto in order to evaluate the work to be done, plan the intervention of the best remediation technologies to minimize time and costs while operating in complete safety, one could not help but think of the Vaccari family who, with a passion for glass, has invested for years in research and development to provide a product not in the catalog, but customized to every need even for small projects. Having identified the areas where to operate at height with dry operators equipped with filters suitable for the suction of the glass fiber deposited during production on the structures of the shed (walls, ceilings, trusses) and on machinery (in particular on the oven and its planchets), where to intervene with wet operators to suck up the washing products carried out with high-pressure water lances and "cut" nozzles, having assessed the underground tanks and reservoirs to be reclaimed avoiding the risk of operating in confined environments with "no entry" technologies, Vonde presented the project and master works to the Italian Itelyum Sea FVG Srl and the Slovenian Ecoplus doo, for the specialization of the former in industrial reclamation and cleaning of production sites (steel mills and oil industries in particular) and for that of the latter in the "no entry" reclamation of underground tanks (especially Petrol and ex OMV service stations in Slovenia), but creating synergies between the two companies, without interference or mixing of the teams. By organizing the work of a dry operator with adequate power to operate with three suction lines of over 200 ml each, three wet operators with 300 bar pumps and lobe depressors capable of sucking up wet residues, and an Atex ROV for no-entry remediation of underground tanks and reservoirs, the work planned to last three weeks was completed two days early.

The suction residues were delivered to the Plant which will complete the necessary formalities to send it to authorized treatment plants

The construction site is now being passed to those responsible for uninstalling the systems and equipment.

Once the machinery and equipment have been decommissioned, Vonde will be called back to complete the work in Eurofibre to evaluate the organization of the remediation of pavements, channels, drains and lamination and first rain tanks, probably in May-June.

The first part of the work was done on time and in an impeccable manner, with an excellent result. Great attention was paid to safety during all activities.

Thanks and appreciation to the Eurofibre managers for how they carried out and supervised the work without any operational interference and above all for how they managed the start-up phases with pre-job meetings that resumed the fundamental points of the DUVRI on which the two companies have formalized the document and staff training for the prevention of any risk of accident/injury.

Vonde has known and worked with and for Itelyum Sea FVG for years now, the standard and quality of its service is now “normal”.

With Ecoplus it was our “first time”: our compliments to Martin, Miha and Spela for the organization and quality of their company: for Vonde, it will certainly be the first time of many other future opportunities for collaboration.
